The CENTRAL LIBRARY BOOKSTORE
The Friends Bookstore at the Central Library is just to the right as you enter. It is tiny but exceptionally curated, with special sales that change weekly. Our “Free Books” carts are stocked daily with books that we cannot sell, but are free for you to take and enjoy, or to refill your Little Free Library! The carts are currently available during all open hours and are located outside the store by the front entrance. There are also greeting cards and CDs. And….don’t forget a beautiful Friends of the Library t-shirts – always in fashion!
Sales at the Central Library Bookstore, March 2 – March 28
Sales run Monday thru Saturday, and additional books are regularly added.
March 2 thru March 7. That’s two whole weeks of Mystery Time !!! We’ll feature classic mysteries (think Agatha and Sayers), plus old favorites and modern masters (think Michael Connelly, Louise Penny, Alexander McCall Smith) possibilities. Prices range from 50 cents to a dollar.
March 9 -14. Favorite children’s books (includes older beloved classics plus some newer graphic novels). Got a gap in a series? We’ve got Dog Man, Harry Potter, The Babysitters Club, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and more.
March 16 – March-21. Big Books and Small Books. Yes, sometimes size matters. Particularly if you are into collage or folded art projects, you’ ll want to check out these books. For the bigger books, prices start at $1 each.
March 23 – 28. Time for some Spring cleaning! Our biblio-attic is overflowing, and we have so much stuff we’re giving it away. From pads of paper to CDs, piles of books to folders… plus much more. Yes, much of the material will be Free!
The CHANNING BOOKSTORE
The Channing Way Bookstore is located at 2433 Channing on the ground floor of the Telegraph-Channing garage. Park in the parking structure: first hour free!, or, use one of the pedestrian entrances on Channing Way or Durant Avenue (note: the latter is not wheelchair accessible).
February Book Sales at the Channing Bookstore
So many mysteries, and so popular that we have extended the sale another week through March 7. We’re reducing the price to 25¢, any mystery, any format.
Starting March 3, thoughts are turning to Spring and the start of serious gardening. We have an extensive collection of books on floral and vegetable garden design, many specific to the Bay Area. Yeah, tomatoes not so much, but you should see my arugula! Drop in for ideas about xeriscapes, landscapes, and shelfscapes! Get a book, plant a seed!
Starting March 10, we will have a special offering of book plates, prints and illustrations. Many of these have been removed from the original book by the donor, some have been come apart from the binding on a book too tattered to resell. Most are vintage, and well worth a visit to the Channing bookstore. At these prices you could frame them, or use for a book arts project.
If you are driving to the Channing Way store, remember that long-awaited elevator improvements to the Telegraph-Channing Garage are underway. There will be temporary impacts to access and facilities. The garage and the bookstore will continue to operate on a regular schedule, and remember, the first hour of parking in the Telegraph-Channing garage is free (unless there is a special event, like a home football game)!
